Until now, player switching was limited to two options: The automatic switch and the manual player switching via L1/LB or R3. EA announced up to four new alternatives for the upcoming part of the FIFA series. The most interesting new features seem to be the icon switching and the player rotation.

The icon switching allows the players to select their defense more precisely, EA informs. To do this, the R3 button must be pressed and a directional arrow appears above the four players near the ball. Afterwards, the right stick only has to be moved in the direction that appears above the desired player. This option can be deactivated in the settings. With this innovation, EA would integrate the counterpart to the offensive player lock.
Player Rotation
According to EA, the player rotation is an extension of the classic switching with the right stick. It allows a so-called "pre-switch" based on a next player switch indicator. Only when the player is satisfied with the potentially selected player, then the switch can be confirmed manually via L1/LB. Thus, EA would also create more room for individuality here.
