Just like in offense and defense, there are a few basic things you should pay attention to in the buildup to the game. The golden rule is to stay calm. Even if the opponent puts you under pressure, and he certainly will, it is essential that you stay cool. If you get hectic, this will quickly lead to intercepted passes and easy ball losses. The key is safe passing and ball control.

Pay attention to a good control of the ball

In FIFA 22 it's like on the real football pitch, for optimal control over the ball you have to stay calm. Many people get nervous when one or even two opponents come at them, which often causes less experienced gamers to make frantic actions that usually result in a loss of the ball. However, if you stay calm even in tight situations, you can let your opponents run into nothing.

Pay attention to a safe passing game

It is also important to keep your nerves when passing. Hectic pressing of the X/A button leads to inaccurate passes that often end up with the opponent. When you play a pass, always make sure that the direction of the pass matches the direction your player is facing. If you run to the left but pass to the front, the ball may be inaccurate or not reach your teammate at all.

Raised passes are an effective tool

Everybody in the FIFA community knows the normal pass (X/A key), the pressure pass (X+R1/A+RB), the steep pass (triangle/Y) as well as the high steep pass (triangle+L1/Y+LB). Since FIFA 21 you have another option: the raised pass. For this you simply press the pass button twice. The first time you press it, you determine the strength of the pass, the second press activates the raised pass.

You can see the raised pass as a middle way between the normal and the high pass. Often the passing path is blocked for a flat pass, but the high pass would be too long, in these situations the raised pass is ideal. It is also ideal for sharp passes into the penalty area. Remember, however, that the recipient of the pass needs more time to control the ball.

The raised pass should therefore be considered as an alternative rather than the first option in the build-up to the game. Especially in your own half, you should think carefully about whether one or two more flat passes might not be a more sensible alternative. In the offense, however, the raised pass can be an effective means for you to get into a good finishing position.
