FIFA 22: These are the basics of dribbling

In FIFA 22, dribbling is more important than in any previous game. If you are able to dribble with your players in a controlled way, you'll be difficult for your opponents to predict. Apart from that, you'll be able to get out of the opposing team's pressing situations more easily. Apart from the classic dribbling with the left analog stick, there are two other options for you.

The first option is the Strafe dribble

The Strafe dribble, which is known since FIFA 20, is basically nothing else than the skilled dribble, which is already known for a long time. The difference to the classic dribble is that you move in a much tighter space. Furthermore, you touch the ball in shorter time intervals, which leads to faster movements. You can enter the Strafe dribble with the L1/LB button + left analog stick.

Strafe dribble extension: Locked Angle Strafe dribble

While the player with the ball always faces the opponent's goal in the Strafe dribble, you can dribble in any direction on the court with the Locked Angle Strafe dribble. To apply this type of dribbling, press the R1/RB button in addition to the L1/LB button. With the Locked Angel Strafe dribble you are unpredictable for your opponents.

You can stall your opponent and buy time for one of your teammates to run free. The Strafe dribble and the Locked Angle Strafe dribble are good ways to keep opponents at a distance or to wait for the right moment to make a pass. But be careful: During the dribble the player does not protect the ball with his body.

Dragback and Double Step

Before you use the Strafe dribble, simply pulling the ball back can give you a big advantage. If you anticipate your opponent's movement correctly, you can use it to avoid a tackle and quickly change direction. This works with the L1/LB button and pressing the left stick in the desired running direction. So keep a close eye on your opponents.

The Double Step is nothing more than a fakemove that serves to let your opponents run into empty space. You pull the ball back during the Strafe dribble. The opponent will most likely think that you want to change direction when you pull the ball back, but in reality you will return to normal dribbling after only one contact with the ball, without changing the running direction.

The second option is Agile dribbling

Agile dribbling was introduced in FIFA 21. As the name suggests, it makes you much more agile in your dribbling, moving faster and at the same time more precise with the ball. You can use it with the R1/RB button + the left analog stick. Please note: A fast and precise ball control requires good values in dribbling, agility, reactions and ball control of your player.
